Energetic Workings
The famous Carl Sagan quote goes like this: “The cosmos is within us. We are made of star-stuff. We are a way for the universe to know itself.” He stated this in his 1980 TV series Cosmos, and he wasn’t reaching for poetry; he was pointing to a literal truth. Every atom in our bodies was born long before Earth existed, forged in ancient stars that lived and died billions of years ago. The calcium in our bones, the iron in our blood, the carbon in our DNA, all of it is the aftermath of celestial firestorms. We move through our lives stitched together by the remnants of supernovas.
This means something profound: we are not separate from the universe, we are the universe, arranged into a temporary, conscious pattern.
And once you understand that, another idea becomes surprisingly practical: the kid in The Matrix who bends the spoon isn’t performing a miracle. He simply understands the nature of reality. “Do not try to bend the spoon,” he says. “That’s impossible. Instead, only try to realize the truth… there is no spoon.”
The spoon, like everything else in existence, is not a solid, immutable object. It is a temporary cluster of atoms vibrating in space, a pattern held together by forces we are only beginning to understand. And we, also clusters of atoms, possess something inanimate objects do not: consciousness, intention, the ability to direct attention and meaning.
From a scientific perspective, everything is energy in motion. From a spiritual perspective, everything is connected and responsive. In the liminal space where these truths overlap, something powerful happens: our consciousness becomes a force that can interact with reality. Not because we’re “breaking” physics, but because we are participating in it.
In other words:
The spoon bends because reality is not as solid, separate, or fixed as we were taught.
And magic works because consciousness is not passive, it is creative.
This is the foundation of Energetic Workings:
a grounded, science-informed, spiritually courageous approach to witchcraft that treats intuition not as fantasy, but as one of the universe’s native languages.
Here, we explore magic not as an escape from reality, but as a skillful engagement with it.
Let’s explore this strange, sparkling intersection together.
Let’s see what happens when we stop pretending the spoon is solid,
and remember that we are made of stars.
